Search engines

The search for the best search engine

Google - Link

Its success was based in part on the concept of PageRank based on popularity , under the premise that the most desirable pages were linked by other pages more than the rest. This idea allowed Google to have the pages of a specific search based on their importance , based on this algorithm , ie, the more pages linked by other pages are displayed first. The minimalist interface Google became very popular among users and since then has had many imitators

Google and many other search engines not only used PageRank , but over 150 criteria to determine the relevance of a page . The key features of this search engine will be presented in the following form .

yahoo - Link

In 2004 , Yahoo launched its own search engine based on a combination of technologies from its acquisitions and providing a service which already prevailed search sites on the directory .Its best feature is probably the integrated homepage. It not only counts with other services such as those in google, including e-mail, but also incorporates others such as yahoo questions, where other users can answer. Also, instead of using a minimalistic interface such as google does it has decided to use a sort of homepage where you can access to news, email and others. This in my opinion is an advantage against google.

live - Link

The most recent of the major search engines is Live (formerly MSN Search) , from Microsoft , which previously relied on others to post their searches. In 2004 he debuted a beta version with their own results , driven by its own robot (called msnbot ) . Early in 2005 he began the final version.

The market is now dominated by Google , Yahoo and Microsoft . The other big search engines tend to be sites that show the results of other search engines and also offer other types of content that are more or less importance on the page itself as does Yahoo!
ask - Link
Ask is a search engine where you can ( as the name says in English "ask" is asking) ask for what you're looking for , whether you are looking for the answer to a question or just want to find a particular file .

Search with a nice graphical interface, provides services in Web search , image search , video, and Directions Maps , News, and a session of searches for online purchases .

The truth is it is a quite limited user services finder .

thumbshots - link

Thumbshots is a search engine that is based on results from other search engines ( metasearch but is not ) , because in the case of querying only be carried out on two types of search engines.

Thumbshot has a very special feature because it makes comparisons between two search engines, evaluates what their pages in common, assesses how many web pages retrieved each of the engines and compares them to the user is to an idea that search engine is better with respect to the subject you are considering in the search.

Personal Opinion

I personally use firefox, even though it is true that google chrome is faster. However, I got used to firefox and if firfox is not working I use Safari.

E-mail Comparation

Gmail , windows live hotmail and yahoo mail are three of the most popular free online e-mail providers
The three services offer very similar features , but yahoo mail is the only vendor that offers free unlimited storage space . Gmail offers little more than 7 GB and windows live hotmail 5 gigs .

Moreover gmail is the only email service whose account does not expire after a certain period of inactivity . windows live hotmail expires 270 days and yahoo mail 120 days, a time which is not bad but obviously requires more to be confused with eye to walk if they have any accounts you do not use a lot and do not want to lose.

the trio agrees to provide virus scanner , access the same options , ads and messages limit . many users , on the other hand , are tilted by a provider or another depending on the interface and to provide extra features . For gmail in the lab where we have a lot of extra features that can help us to manage our time email appear . windows live hotmail offers a nice customizable interface with the addition of being able to create a profile or a space as a social network.

The three companies will offer a number of very large storage space , hotmail allows you conection to an xbox live , while that allows you access to yahoo answers yahoo , g mail you makes a big difference with youtube and blogger, yahoo but hotmail and also offer you videos and blog service .

Personal Opinion E-mail

My peronal preference on the email is gmail. It has never failed me and it has a great storage capacity!

Data Security Policy

Data Security Policy:

Here is a link to some tips google gives to us: http://www.google.com/safetycenter/everyone/start/

Online work or work just done on the computer can be easily lost, especially if you do not own a Mac ( these at least do save your work for a period of time even if you run out of battery), that is why you shoul always have a back up just in case. Here are some examples of them.
1.UseGoogle Drive,  it allows  acces anywhere to the files and in case of electricity lost everything is safe while working.

2. Keep an external hardware memory devices, with a copy of the most important data.

3. Save your documents every once in a while. It might sound silly but it is a just a second and you can save lots of tears afterwards.

Essential Concepts

Learning some definitions!

In order for us to fully understand the podacasting world we have to know its terms.

So lets start!!

XML
The language they use tto create online sites. The definition of  webopidia is:
Short for Extensible Markup Language, a specification developed by the W3C. XML is a pared-down version of SGML, designed especially for Web documents. It allows designers to create their own customized tags, enabling the definition, transmission, validation, and interpretation of data between applications and between organizations.

RSS

Is a file format that allows websites to share information for othe websites to publish, for example news, webopedias definition:

Audio Comparison!

What will become of pur world without music? I don't even want to think about that. Music is all around us like in the movies, in the cars, even at elevators! And maybe because of it popularity people have found many many ways to record music. That is why there are so many types of files for it. And the best thing is that you can find the all in Webopedia.

Mp3

This one is the most popular. It is used by eliminating background noises.
It is named Mp3 because it works with three layers. It compresses audio into the third.

WMA

This one is only used in Windows therefore it is not as popular obviously. It has smaller size and lower quality than WAV.

WAV

It is short for WAVE form. Audio file format is a digital audio format without data compression normally developed and owned by Microsoft and IBM that is used to store sounds on the PC, supports both mono and stereo files to various resolutions and sampling

AIFF

It is short for Audio Interchange File Format, which is a common format for storing and transmitting sampled sound. It was developed by Apple therefore is mostly used in macintosh. It does not compress data for it you can have AIFF- compressed another format.

RA

The de facto standard for streaming audio data over the World Wide Web. RealAudio was developed by RealNetworks and supports FM-stereo-quality sound. To hear a Web page that includes a RealAudio sound file, you need a RealAudio player orplug-in, a program that is freely available from a number of places. It's included in current versions of both Netscape Navigator andMicrosoft Internet Explorer.
